- Cut the sample where the measurement is require, avoid any type of burning of the sample.
- Mount the sample.
- Grind the sample on belt grinder on the face to be tested longitudinal direction to remove any sharp corners and scaling if any.
- Polish on emery paper no. 180,240,320, changing direction to 90° on change of every emery paper.
- Finally polish on cloth using diamond paste till fine mirror finish is observed.
- Clean the surface with soap & methanol & dry. (No scratch or dust particle shall be visible on the surface, which will alter the results).
- Etch with 2.0-5.0 % nitral.
- Measure the related thickness of the sample & record the result. (refer Image analyser manual)
- Record the observations.
- Accept, if the observed values confirm to the specification.
